Short answer: a good business website quickly tells what you do, who it’s for and where, works fast on mobile, shows prices or price ranges and lets you get in touch with one click. Trendy design is at the bottom of this list.
Checklist: 10 points
- First screen on mobile. Without scrolling you see: what you offer, where you operate and a contact button. Google evaluates sites mainly on mobile, so you should also review your site first on a phone.
- Speed. Google sets good‑performance thresholds: the largest contentful paint (LCP) loads in 2.5 seconds or faster, interaction to next paint (INP) up to 200 ms, and layout shift (CLS) up to 0.1.
- Price or range. Even “from a modest amount” works better than “prices are custom”, because the client knows whether it’s worth writing.
- Proof. Projects with photos, genuine reviews with names, concrete numbers. No stock smiling teams.
- One‑click contact. Phone as a link, a form with 2–3 fields, a reply indicating when you’ll call back.
- Company details. Name, address or service area, business details. The client checks if the business exists.
- Privacy policy and cookies. The form collects personal data, so you need information compliant with privacy law, and for ads a consent banner as well.
- SEO basics. Unique title and description for each page, a single H1 heading, a sitemap submitted to Google.
- Readability. Text contrast, font size on mobile, alt text for images.
- Security and backups. HTTPS, up‑to‑date plugins, a backup that someone has actually restored at least once.
Modern, meaning what?
In search, people type “modern websites”, “minimalist sites” or “beautiful website”. Style matters, but only when it doesn’t hurt points 1‑5. Heavy animations, background video and fonts loaded from multiple servers can ruin speed and thus the site’s performance.
If you’re not sure which style to pick, start with ready‑made options. In our Design gallery you choose a look instead of describing it, and the gallery style is included in the website price. A custom design for your brand is available at an additional cost.
Common mistakes we see on business sites
- A full‑screen slider on the first screen with a tagline that says nothing.
- Phone number only in the footer and as an image that can’t be clicked.
- A form that for months has been sending messages to a non‑existent inbox.
- A year in the footer from a few years ago. The client thinks the business isn’t operating.
- Photos a few megabytes each straight from the camera.

How fast should a website load?
Google considers a good result to be LCP up to 2.5 seconds, INP up to 200 ms and CLS up to 0.1. These three metrics are Core Web Vitals.
